Kelley Fox Wines Pinot Noir Canary Hill Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills 2022 750 ML

This is my third bottling of Canary Hill Vineyard. Originally planted in 1982 by Dick and Nancy Daniel, this classic Eola-Amity Hills vineyard was purchased by Ken Wright Cellars in 2006. Their vineyard manager, Seth Miller, has been farming it organically with the utmost love and care. It’s called “Canary Hill” because the founders were told that the countless little yellow birds that live there were canaries. They are Western goldfinches, but the name stayed. This vineyard is gorgeous.
The Canary Hill 2022 is a youthful, medium-dark, rich, blue-red with brilliant transparency. The 2022 is about ethereal as any wine I’ve had from the Eola-Amity Hills at the time of writing these notes. It has beautiful flight. Its wine-darkness is concealed, as well as its detailed structure. The nose is cool and fresh and loaded with red fruits like Oregon strawberries, raspberries, and cherries along with minerals. The mouth is much like the nose, though the fruits deepen to perfectly ripe black cherry character and a hint of spices. I love the tension in this wine, and the texture is both weightless and fine with a long, delicious finish.
