The terroir of Chateau Rauzan-Gassies lies exclusively on the glacial gravel of Margaux and Cantenac, overlooking the Gironde river. The excellent drainage of this soil makes it ideal for an elite vineyard. The gravel along the river is a sanctuary for Margaux vineyards, that were already reputed in the Middle Ages. All the Chateau Rauzan-Gassies terroirs are part of the "Historical Margaux", and were planted with vines long before 1855.
