Larkmead Vineyards stands as a living testament to Napa Valley’s rich history, with vines tracing back to the 1850s. Established in 1895, the estate has been shaped by the care of the Solari-Baker family since 1948, witnessing Napa’s evolution over two centuries. The estate’s vineyard is nestled on soils formed by ancient alluvial flows, creating a distinctive mix of gravel, clay, and loam more akin to hillside terroirs than typical valley floors—giving the wines their signature depth and complexity.
At the helm of winemaking, Avery Heelan carefully crafts small lots, thoughtfully selecting specific clones and matching them to the unique soils to bring out the true character of the estate. Among Larkmead’s revered labels, the Firebelle Red shines as a Bordeaux-inspired blend, showcasing the harmonious marriage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2021 Firebelle, awarded 97 points, is already hailed as one of their finest releases. With the addition of Cabernet Franc, this vintage achieves new layers of complexity, elevating its reputation as a must-try for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Expressive nose of red and violet florals intermixed with toffee and cedarwood spices. Medium-to full-bodied expression of Firebelle with a hefty mid-palate density from the addition of 17% Cabernet Franc and an absolute purity of cinnamon-spiced red currants and vanilla-scented strawberry fruits. Sturdy beams of cedar-kissed tannins have a chocolatey quality. Salty minerals fuel the long finish, and the wine possesses natural polish and sheen.
