A soft wine that is immediately accessible, this is ripe with black fruits. A touch of spice gives added interest to the smoky aftertaste. \n \n Producer Information \n Casa Santos Lima is a family-owned wine company in Portugal. It has been at the forefront of the Portuguese wine industry since the 19th Century, although wines have only been made under the Santos Lima name since 1996. It is located in the Alenquer DOC within the wider Lisboa region, 28 miles (45km) north of the city of Lisbon. The company consists of several distinct estates (quintas) including Bons-Ventos, Boavista and Setencostas, as well as the Palha-Canas brand and some varietal releases. In total there are around 200 hectares (500 acres) of vineyards. Production covers around 50 different grape varieties, including the main international cultivars like Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as Portuguese specialities such as Touriga Nacional, Fernão Pires and Castelão, plus rediscovered local rarities. The vineyards span the length of the country, across a range of soils and climates, from the dry Algarve and Alentejo in the south to the more coastal Alenquer, and on to the sun-baked Douro and the more lush Vinho Verde in the north. The winery was built in the 1930s, although its facilities have been modernized over the years. Red wines are fermented in temperature-controlled vats of different capacities, and most are then aged in Portuguese, French or American oak. The reds generally are made in a modern, ripe, extracted style, and all wines are known for their value.
Deep garnet color with aromas of blackberry, cassis, and oak spice; palate shows plum, cocoa, and vanilla with smooth tannins and a lingering finish.
