Here's steal of a Bordeaux that's been showered with accolades. This estate in the village of St. Aubin de Blaye was created back in 1904 by Gabriel Bruneteau who was elected mayor of Saint Aubin de Blaye in 1921. Today his great grandson Jean-Francois Reaud has modernized the winery and started organic farming in 2011.
The vineyard is 60 acres on sandy gravel in the Right Bank's Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux with excellent south eastern exposure. This 2016 started with a cold maceration and then a slow fermentation over three weeks with pumping over 2 or 3 times a day followed. The wine aged in cement vats. The final blend is 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec.
This wine has been awarded a Gold Medal by Gilbert & Gaillard 2018, a Gold Medal in the CWSA 2018, a Gold medal in Allwines 2017, a Silver Medal in the International Wine Awards 2018, a Silver Medal in the Amphore competition 2018, a Silver Medal in the Bruxelles Competition 2018, a Silver Medal in the Feminalise competition 2018 and Silver Medal in Challenge Millesime Bio 2017 among other awards.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "Balanced and structured, this rich organic wine is generous and packed with black fruits. Concentration and layers of wood are all part of Jean-François Reaud's fruity wine that will age well.
A beautiful deep colour with purple glints. The ripe, intensely fruit- driven nose is emphasized by spicy, woody notes. On the palate, the frank attack softens with well-integrated tannins. An expression of ripe fruit is underpinned with freshness. Velvety and pleasant in style, with great generosity.
