This wine is 100 percent Merlot from the Ashes and Diamonds Estate Vineyard. Steve has been overseeing the farming of this classic Merlot Vineyard since 2015,
The fruit was fermented in a small, open-top tank and punched down by hand two to three times a day, depending on the rate of extraction. The wine was aged in 25% new French oak Bousset barrels and the rest older neutral barrels. The wine was bottled after 20 months of elevage, with no rackings.
The wine has the richness and aromatic profile of Merlot, with impeccable balance and elegance. The vineyard always gives sweet cherry and chocolate, balanced by dried herbs. 2019 was a warm and consistent year, so the fast ripening facilitated an early harvest before the fruit got too ripe, allowing us to retain beautiful freshness.
Ashes & Diamonds Rouge is a blend of Bordeaux style varietals from select vineyards across Napa Valley. The variety of regions depicts a whole view of what Napa Valley represents as a single AVA - from thin, rugged soils to the thicker, rich soils of the valley floor. Rouge also marries multiple vintages as another tool in the art of blending, which delivers a more approachable wine earlier in its life. Kashy Khaledi gained his passion for wine from his parents founding Darioush Winery. The 40-acre property that is home to Ashes & Diamond consists of 55-acres planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. They also sell fruit to small local wineries. This Napa Valley Red is focused, with notes of dark cherry and secondary notes of cocoa dusting and spice. “The wine rests easy on the palate, with great tannic structure and a round, rich frame. An excellent Napa Valley Cabernet blend, more about structure than ripeness and alcohol.”
