The history of Cos d'Estournel, located in Saint-Estephe, begins in 1811 when Louis Gaspard d'Estournel bought vines, in addition to those inherited. The origin of the name Cos, meaning hill of stones in old Gascon, underlines the ideal location of the estate. The architecture of the castle is unique with its sumptuous pagodas, a door from Zanzibar and multiple ornaments recalling the exoticism of the Orient. From the 19th century, the wines of the estate were exported as far as India. In 1855, Cos d'Estournel was classified second grand cru. In 2000 Michel Reybier became the owner of the castle.
A refined and pretty wine now with spice, berry and chocolate character on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. Subtle spice aftertaste. Underrated wine.
